“Do you want me to pray for you?” my mother’s cousin asked me. I was around 5 years and she was an Evangelist. We were in my bedroom on a normal Saturday afternoon. I said okay and knelled by the side of my bed, hands clasped together in prayer.
She began praying and I remember her saying, and at one pointing shouting, for Jesus to protect me. She was in full prayer when I felt someone standing over me. My childhood bedroom was very large and she was on the other side of the room, so it wasn’t her. I opened my eyes, and no one was there. I started to cry, overwhelmed by the experience.
The knowledge that there is something bigger than me, invisible but for sure present, was a major event in my young life. And thus, my spiritual journey to understand began that day.
My mother told me, “You can find something beautiful about everyone.” So, I equated this to God is in everyone.
My father would call me uncanny, I could create things out of nothing. So God works through me.
Both my parents and two grandparents were teachers. I became a 3rd generation teacher and consider myself an educator even though I am no longer in the classroom. My parents both started businesses. I never thought I would, but in 2010, TADA Body was established. TADA-True Amazing Dreams Appear.
It was 2009, the Great Recession was in full swing and I was out of work. The year earlier I had discovered Shea Butter and African Black Soap and began to create my own natural body products. It was out of necessity that I began to give my homemade Whipped Shea Butter and African Black soap as gifts on birthdays, holidays and other special occasions. Then honest to goodness people started wanting to purchase my products, so I began to sell TADA Body and Bath Products.
One more thing. In the year 2000, I completed a four-year training program to become a licensed Prayer Practitioner. I am trained as a therapist who uses affirmative prayer as one of the tools in counseling. I practice Affirmative Prayer, Sacred Service, Meditation, Study and Fellowship.
When making TADA Body and Bath Products the space is Sacred. Love and kindness, Joy and harmony, health and Wellness, Wisdom and generosity is the prayer as each batch is prepared and the intention for each person who uses it.
May your True Amazing Dreams Appear. TADA!
This poem was written over 25 years ago. It is a vision of the what Dr Martin Luther King called the "Beloved Community". The only way to achieve it, we must see it. It is our assignment.
